John has been in the IT industry for the past 10 years since graduating from Kent State University where he studied Psychology and Pre-Dentistry. He attributes his career success to his formal education since implementing IT security is like “pulling teeth.” John recently moved into a new role with Westfield Group as their Information Security Architect & Engineer. His areas of responsibilities include information security policy, legislative awareness and project management. Previously, he served as Westfield’s Information Security and Disaster Recovery Coordinator.
Before joining Westfield Group, John was employed with KeyBank as an Information Security Engineer and Unix Systems Engineer. He has also worked for BP, NASA, Arter & Hadden and Roadway as a consultant in various IT related areas.
When John is not busy securing Westfield Group, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. You can usually find John on a golf course, in front of a grill or at an Indian’s game during the summer. During the winter he spends his time skiing and hunting. Other interests include books (the audio variety), videography, photography and tech gadgets.

Mike Rossander
I'm Mike Rossander, the Corporate Information Security Manager for the Westfield Group, a regional insurance carrier based in Medina County, Ohio. I started writing InfoSec "Tips" in 2004 as a way to raise employee awareness and teach others how to recognize these scams. Over time, the tips were opened up to family members who wanted to subscribe, then to Westfield's independent agents and other business partners and now are published for anyone wanting to learn more about protecting your people and your information.
Prior to joining Westfield, I was a Senior Manager for Ernst & Young's business process consulting practice. Before that, I served for 15 years in the US Army, mostly in the artillery. My undergraduate degree was in physics and education (I was briefly a high school science teacher) and I hold an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. I keep honeybees in my backyard and recently started teaching myself forging (the blacksmithing kind).
